The Montclair Women’s Club is joining with Dumpling Diplomacy to host a book club discussion of The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together by Heather McGee, longlisted for the National Book Award. McGhee’s eye-opening book finds that racism has a cost for the perpetrators as well as the victims, echoing Frederick Douglass over a century later. The discussion is part of a Community Read in advance of McGhee’s appearance at the library the next week as part of their Open Book / Open Mind event.
Taste buds and brain cells will be lubricated with an edible treat that embodies the dividend of solidarity.
